Kevin O'Connor, U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut, was appointed today as chief of staff for embattled U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

He replaces Chuck Rosenberg, who served on an interim basis. Rosenberg replaced Kyle Sampson, who abruptly resigned in mid-March due to the growing controversy over the firing of eight U.S. Attorneys, allegedly for political reasons, as discussed in this USA Today article.

The 39-year-old O'Connor is a 1992 graduate of the University of Connecticut School of Law. For more details on his background, see this Boston Globe article or this prnewswire item, based on information from the Department of Justice.
