U.S. Attorney Alberto Gonzales' scheduled hearing Tuesday before the Senate Judiciary Committee has been postponed because of the massacre today at Virginia Tech.

According to the latest news reports, at least 33 were killed and at least another 30 were injured in two separate on-campus shooting sprees. The death toll makes this the worst mass shooting in U.S. history, on a college campus or otherwise. For more details on the massacre, see the Washington Post.

Another Senate hearing is scheduled Thursday to give the embattled chief American prosecutor a chance to defend himself and his handling of the controversial firing of eight U.S. attorneys, allegedly as part of a political purge. For more details on the hearing postponement, see this AP story.
