Gonzales Vote Likely Today

Senate Democrats are pushing for a vote today on whether Attorney General Alberto Gonzales should keep his job.
Most Republicans are likely to vote against the resolution, Associated Press reports. Sixty votes are needed for approval, and Republicans believe the measure will be defeated, the New York Times Caucus blog reports.
It reads: ''It is the sense of the Senate that Attorney General Alberto Gonzales no longer holds the confidence of the Senate and of the American people.''
President Bush told reporters covering his European visit that the symbolic vote won’t change his mind--he stands by Gonzales.
''They can have their votes of no-confidence but it's not going to make the determination about who serves in my government,'' Bush said. ''This process has been drug out a long time. ... It's political.''
