Got an Offer? Grab It, Recruiter Tells Would-Be Summer Associates

Applying for work as a law firm summer associate is a faster-paced musical chairs game than ever before this year, as the list of law firms making layoffs seemingly increases on an almost-daily basis.

If you are lucky enough to have multiple offers, don't hoard them. Now is the time to accept promptly, if possible, lest you give employers the idea that you're not all that keen on working for them, recommends Lynne Traverse in an Am Law Daily post. She is recruiting and professional development director at Bryan Cave.

"In addition to harming other students, holding/hoarding offers at this point conveys a sense of indecision and less than total enthusiasm about the employer's opportunity," she writes. "This is not the way you want to begin your relationship with an employer."
