Group Chastises Calif. Firms on Hiring

An advocacy group supporting greater minority participation in policy making is giving a barely passing grade to several California law firms.
The report by Berkeley's Greenlining Institute gave Ds and Fs to the following firms for apparently employing few or no African-American partners, according to the Recorder:
--Cooley Godward Kronish for having no African-American partners. --Gordon & Rees; Jones Day; Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold; Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher; and DLA Piper, for each having only one African-American partner.
Getting an A was Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, which has three African-American partners out of 52 in California.
The institute got its employment numbers from NALP, the national association for legal career professionals. The report is available on the institute’s Web site.
