Growing Number of Law Firms Contribute to China Relief Efforts

More than a dozen law firms are contributing money to help earthquake victims in China.
While the firms were certainly motivated by the urge to help the devastated region, business considerations may also have been a factor, the AmLaw Daily suggests. “Is it sheer coincidence that many of the American law firms opening their wallets to help China's recent earthquake victims also happen to have active China practices?” the publication asks. “Probably not.”
The Am Law Daily lists these firms as making contributions: Dewey & LeBoeuf; Heller Ehrman; Kirkland & Ellis; McDermott Will & Emery; Morrison & Foerster; Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe; Sullivan & Cromwell; Baker & McKenzie; Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton; O'Melveny & Myers; Paul Hastings; Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom; and Weil, Gotshal & Manges.
Morrison & Foerster, for example, has offices in Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong. "We've made a commitment to business [in China] and have employees there, and we want to show our support," managing partner Keith Wetmore told the publication.
