Holland & Knight Partner to Lead Judge Impeachment Probe

A partner at Holland & Knight with the right resume has been hired to lead the impeachment inquiry into U.S. District Judge Thomas Porteous.
D.C. partner Alan Baron will serve as special counsel to the House Judiciary Committee, reports The BLT: The Blog of Legal Times. Baron was the House’s special impeachment counsel in cases against two federal judges removed from office in the 1980s: Alcee Hastings and Walter Nixon, the blog says.
Porteous has been suspended from hearing cases. The Judicial Council of the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has reprimanded Porteous in a report that says he committed perjury and took money from lawyer friends whose cases were before him.
