In a move that could enhance funding for programs that provide legal services to low-income individuals and families, the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies today recommended a $440 million budget for the Legal Services Corporation for fiscal year 2010.

This figure represents almost a 13 percent increase over the previous fiscal year's $390 million budget, and the $440 million budget bill also includes a provision that would eliminate an existing restriction on LSC-funded programs collecting attorney fees for their work, according to an LSC press release.
