Howrey is looking for lateral attorneys in California, where it expects to increase its attorney roster by 50 to 70 percent.

Headquartered in Washington, D.C., Howrey now has 67 lawyers in San Francisco and East Palo Alto, representing about 10 percent of its worldwide attorney roster of 660, reports the National Law Journal in an article reprinted by New York Lawyer (reg. req.). The litigation firm has a specialized practice niche—antitrust, commercial litigation and patents and trademark cases—that has worked well, and doesn't intend to change its focus, according to Henry Bunsow, the firm's Northern California managing partner.

"We plan to increase our size by 50 percent to 70 percent in the next three to four years," he says. "I think the market is ready for that, and Howrey is now a well-recognized name in Northern California."
