Infamous Va. Law Student Parties Can Make It Hard to Find a Venue

In some cases, claimed misbehavior by University of Virginia law students was pretty minor.

But due to some reputed hearty partying by lawyers-to-be there over the years, law student organizations aren't always welcome guests when it comes time to book events at local hotels, reports the Virginia Law Weekly in a lengthy article today that cites chapter and verse in a number of alleged incidents.

“There were many times during my third year that I thought we wouldn’t be able to hold the 2008 Barristers’ Ball,” former Student Bar Association President Brian Leung, who graduated last year, tells the law school publication. "We contacted the Omni, the Sheraton, the Doubletree, and the Alumni House, among others, and in each case the venue either refused to host us or wanted to impose requirements that we weren’t comfortable agreeing to.”

The situation has improved considerably since then, the article says, in part because of good behavior at recent student events.
