Influential Judges Keep Weight Down

Those who miss the blawg Underneath Their Robes and its Superhotties of the Federal Judiciary, take heart. Judge Richard Posner of the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has some observations about judicial weight—and we don’t mean weight as in intelligent opinions.

Writing on the Becker-Posner blog, the thin Posner writes about recent news reports that having a fat friend increases changes you’ll be fat as well.

“In my own ingroup of 16 judges (11 active members of my court, 4 senior members, and 1 nominee, who will replace an active member who will be taking senior status), only 2 are overweight (12.5 percent), compared to a nationwide average of 66 percent. Among my other friends, judicial and otherwise, the percentage who are overweight is probably no greater than 12.5 percent.”

Posner doesn’t identify the overweight judges.

A hat tip to How Appealing, which noted Posner’s blog post.
