Intel Settles Patent Case With Chip Maker

Intel Corp. has agreed to pay a struggling chip maker $250 million for a license to its patents.
The deal calls for Transmeta Corp. to license its existing patents and any obtained for the next 10 years, the Wall Street Journal reports (sub. req).
The Recorder calls the patent battle a “David vs. Goliath case.” Transmeta’s legal department had just two lawyers when it filed suit last year against Intel, which has 240 in-house lawyers, the newspaper reports. Transmeta general counsel John Horsley was formerly chief counsel for intellectual property and technology matters with the Federal Trade Commission.
