Investigator Predicts White House Cooperation

The head of a government watchdog agency came away from a meeting with White House counsel Fred Fielding yesterday saying he believes the administration will cooperate with his probe of political influence.

Scott Bloch, head of the Office of Special Counsel, said the two agreed to procedures that will be used to investigate the firing of U.S. Attorney David Iglesias of New Mexico and possibly other federal prosecutors. The probe will also cover missing government e-mail and political pressures on government employees, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Bloch himself has come under fire for refusing to protect federal workers from discrimination based on sexual orientation, Associated Press reports.

The Hatch Act generally bars use of federal resources for campaign purposes and protects government employees from political coercion.
