An Atlanta-area law firm has vowed to help clients suffering under the country's economic recession with a break in attorney fees.

Starting in January, Gardner Groff Greenwald & Villanueva will reduce its flat-fee rate by 12 percent, according to a statement on its website and a report in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The firm, which announced the fee deal after consulting with clients, also will freeze hourly rates at this year's levels for 2009.

The AJC notes that Gardner believes that lower rates may prompt clients to file more patent applications, "which could be the difference between moving forward with profitable innovations or stagnating.”
