It’s My Trademark, Bon Jovi Says

Musician Jon Bon Jovi is claiming that a new energy drink called Mijovi infringes his trademarked name.

In a cease-and-desist letter Bon Jovi’s lawyer protested the name of the drink and its use of the slogan “itsmilife,” the New York Times reports. The letter asserts the drink maker is attempting to associate the product with the singer and his well-known song, “It’s My Life.”

The man who invented the drink, environmental scientist Marcos Carrington, says the drink is named after his girlfriend, Jovita Saenz. He has agreed to drop the “itsmilife” slogan but maintains he has a right to the drink name.

Bon Jovi must meet an Oct. 31 deadline if he wants to formally oppose Carrington’s trademark on the drink name, the Times says.

Bon Jovi has trademarked his own name as have several other rock musicians, including Prince, who is Carrington’s favorite rocker.

Corrected Sept. 11, 1:50 p.m. An ABA Journal Daily Newsletter subject line was incorrect. Bon Jovi sent a cease-and-desist letter.
