Judge Bernice Donald Wins Liberty Award from ABA’s TIPS Section

A federal district court judge in Tennessee has been named a recipient of an inaugural ABA Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section Liberty Achievement Award.

Judge Bernice Donald is being honored for actively promoting diversity within the legal community, according to the Memphis Business Journal and an ABA press release.

A former member of the ABA Board of Governors and House of Delegates, Donald is the secretary-elect of the association, and will assume the position of secretary for a three-year term at the close of the ABA Annual Meeting this August. She is the first African-American woman in this role. Donald also is a member of the ABA Journal Board of Editors.

The award will be presented to the judge on Aug. 8 at the ABA's Annual Meeting in New York .
