Judge Challenges Age Limit

A 72-year-old Chicago judge has filed a lawsuit seeking to strike down an age limit for judges seeking re-election.
Judge William Maddux, chief judge of the law division for Cook County, is challenging a state law that bars judges from running for re-election after they reach the age of 75, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Maddux contends the law amounts to age discrimination and unconstitutional special legislation because the age limit doesn’t apply to other public officials. "Age alone shouldn't be the criteria," he told the newspaper.
