Judge Orders School to Turn Over List of Donated Cadavers

An Oregon newspaper scored a victory this week when a judge ordered the Oregon Health & Science University to release the names of unclaimed bodies that are donated to the school.

The school has cited privacy concerns as a primary reason for denying a public information request by the Oregonian to see the names, the paper reports.

However, the judge from Multnomah County ruled that the donations ought to be subject to public scrutiny. The paper reports that public interest heightened last year when it was revealed that a man's body was donated after authorities mistakenly thought his family didn't want burial responsibilities.
