L.A. Times Legal Reporter Weinstein Said to Take Buyout

Reports are emerging that a second longtime legal reporter has taken a buyout.
Legal affairs reporter Henry Weinstein of the Los Angeles Times reportedly took a buyout after writing for the newspaper for more than 30 years, the Pasadena Star-News reports.
Many of the newpaper's top reporters and editors are leaving as the result of buyouts or layoffs, according to the story.
Weinstein started with the newspaper in 1978 and covered beats that ranged from housing to local government, according to a 2006 Los Angeles Times story. On the legal beat, he covered the trials of O.J. Simpson and police officers accused of beating Rodney King.
Weinstein has a law degree from the University of California at Berkeley’s Boalt Hall law school.
In November 2006, Weinstein received the John Chancellor Award for Excellence, which recognizes a body of work marked by "courage, integrity, curiosity and intelligence." He was 62 at the time.
Linda Greenhouse of the New York Times has also taken a buyout offer. She will receive about $300,000.
