Labor Lawyer Puts ‘Missing’ Iowa Gov. on Milk Carton

Fake milk carton ads featuring a "Missing" Gov. Chet Culver are circulating through Iowa with this message: "Have you seen me?"

"Description: Democratic Governor with alleged loyalty to Iowa workers and Labor. ... Approach With Caution: May have developed amnesia and is known to throw fits when reminded of his promises. If found, please call 1-800-NOT-LOYAL."

The satirical campaign is the handiwork of Des Moines labor lawyer Mark Hedberg, a Democrat who says he gives the governor an "F" on labor issues, the Des Moines Register reports.

The Register notes that the faux cartons are part of a "quiet backlash" following Culver's veto of pro-union legislation.

But Hedberg, who told the paper he voted for Culver, says the campaign had nothing to do with any union or clients.

"I'm expressing my freedom of speech here," Hedberg said.

The governor's office responded by calling Hedberg's milk carton campaign a "childish political stunt."
