Less than two weeks after announcing that it planned to lay off 11 attorneys and 19 staff members, a Northeast regional firm is opening a new office in Providence, R.I., with two senior partners raided from Nixon Peabody.

Patricia Igoe, a finance practitioner, and Peter Lacouture, who focuses on environmental and utilities law, will also be partners at Robinson & Cole, where they will head the firm's new Providence office, reports the Hartford Business Journal. Three other unidentified lawyers will also work with them there.

"We have seen an increasing demand from our current clients to handle matters in Rhode Island," says managing partner John Lynch Jr. in a press release (PDF). "When the opportunity presented itself to add two experienced partners with established practices, we knew the time was right."

The firm now has 240 lawyers in nine offices in the Northeast and Florida.
