Law Grads Among Those Competing for Free Furniture

It isn't just college students in the Boston area who are competing for free furniture in a thriving market for secondhand treasures, scouring Internet listings and keeping an eagle eye on local curbs and a parking lot where Harvard University offers its castoffs on a first-come, first-served basis.

Two recent law grads who are starting work at Ropes & Gray this fall scored a coffee table among the Harvard offerings recently, reports the Boston Globe in a lengthy article about the free furniture marketplace, which is particularly active as the school year starts.

Despite being gainfully employed, Jenn Pucci and her fiancé, James Yeagle, say it makes sense to shop this way:

"It's pretty ragtag looking," says Pucci of the coffee table. "But we prefer recycling. It uses fewer materials. There is so much stuff out there, there's no need to make more if you don't need it."
