Lawyer Liable for Nightclub Assault

A Dallas lawyer has been ordered to pay $1.3 million in damages for assaulting a nightclub owner.

Earlier this month, a jury had found Jerry W. Mooty Jr. liable for $3 million, but a high-low agreement capped the award at the lower amount, according to Texas Lawyer.

The incident occurred after bouncers ejected two lawyers from Mooty’s firm from the Red Jacket nightclub. The plaintiff says Mooty pushed him, causing him to fall and strike his head on a parked car.

Mooty will also receive some money in the case, the newspaper reports. He settled a counterclaim for an undisclosed sum last year that alleged the plaintiff filed a criminal case against him to bolster his civil case. Mooty was acquitted of criminal charges, and his record has been expunged.
