Lawyer Raps ‘Paralyzed’ Client, Opposing Counsel

A lawyer whose medical malpractice client claimed paralysis, then was caught on videotape walking with a cane, questions why defense lawyers waited almost two years to disclose the tape.
John K. Lawlor of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., had harsh words in an interview with the Daily Business Review for both his client and the defense law firm, Wolpe Leibowitz Alvarez & Fernandez in Miami.
"She committed fraud on the court," said Lawlor, of Lawlor Winston & Justice, referring to his client. "She committed fraud on me. She committed fraud on my firm, on the doctors.”
"If they had shown that videotape to us, we wouldn't have spent another 21 months of litigation time, cost, stress to the doctors involved and waste of the court's time," Lawlor said of the defense firm. "I don't have any clue what they were thinking or why anybody would go forward other than to try to set a trap for my law firm."
A judge dismissed the case in March after seeing the video.
