Burton, Mich., lawyer Michael Breczinski chased down two teens who shot him with BB guns in a mall parking lot Tuesday, even as they fired additional shots at him.

The first pellet hit Breczinski in the neck below his ear. By the time he tackled one of the teens, he had also been shot once in the stomach and twice in his arm.

The teen and his friend were able to get away, but police caught them in a nearby restaurant, ABC12.com reports.

Breczinski says he is lucky, as are the teens, the Flint Journal reports. He had taken his .45-caliber Ruger to target practice earlier in the day, but he didn’t take it to the mall. If he had—and if had believed the teens’ weapons were real guns—he might have opened fire.

And he said the BBs might have done more damage. “I could have lost an eye,” he said.
