As a practicing lawyer, Megyn Kelly hated her long work days.

But now, four years after pleading her way into a part-time gig as a legal affairs expert in Washington, D.C., the 37-year-old Fox News anchor loves her job, reports the Washington Post.

"When I was practicing law and had to do these 13-, 14-, 16-hour days, I was miserable," she says. Now, "you get off the set, you have that post-show high."

Kelly had a Chicago practice that focused on securities law and contract matters, then moved to Washington, D.C., after taking some journalism courses and performing an internship at NBC. Her good looks and long legs aided her rapid career ascent, too.

"Here is this woman who was strikingly attractive but has tremendous air presence and a very strong voice," says Brit Hume, the Washington managing editor of Fox. "We were knocked out. It was screamingly obvious that this was someone with tremendous potential."
