Lawyer Touts ‘Oscar Scoop’: She Is Woman in Green Dress

Celebrity lawyer Vicki Roberts has issued a press release announcing that she is the woman in the green dress who accompanied actor Gary Busey to the Academy Awards last month.

"Oscar Scoop! The Woman in the Green Dress Identified," the press release is headlined. Legal Blog Watch, in its report on the release, speculates that Roberts must adhere to the belief that any publicity is good publicity.

Busey’s appearance on the red carpet before the Oscars proved an embarrassing moment, Legal Blog Watch recounts. Busey interrupted host Ryan Seacrest and embraced an annoyed-looking Jennifer Garner. Busey later apologized in a press release issued by Roberts’ publicist.

"Gary greeted everyone with joy and enthusiasm and goodness in his heart," Roberts says in her press release. "The characterization that he allegedly accosted anyone on the red carpet is belied by the tape.”

This is news?  Just because it’s called a “press release” doesn’t mean you have to release it.

Thank you for an accurate, unbiased report.  And yes, it is news and no, this reporter didn’t “release” anything.  The press release was released by the PRWeb and other media after it was submitted or issued by a firm that represents Ms. Roberts in her capacity as talent (the nomenclature in the entertainment business for above-the-line personnel , typically on air personalities).  Ms. Roberts is very well known in the entertainment industry and presently co-stars on a nationally syndicated television series.  She has been a frequent legal commentator and is a leading attorney contributor to the book, Beyond a Reasonable Doubt, Introduced by Larry King.  She has a page on the imdb (Internet Movie Data Base) that lists her credits, to wit, www.imdb.com/name/nm2399449/.  This reporter merely reported on a news item of interest.  That was perfectly proper.  As for the legal blog referenced and its complaint about the publicity aspect of the press release, it should be noted that many high profile people in the entertainment industry employ publicists; the blogger’s ignorance of both the business and Ms. Roberts’ credentials is a blatant reminder that researching one’s subject matter and one’s level of intellect are not prerequisites to posting opinions on the world wide web.
