Lawyers Warn of Possible Gitmo Suicides

Lawyers for Guantanamo Bay detainees say a Justice Department plan to limit their visits could lead to an increase in suicides.
"The level of depression is soaring, I am afraid,'' lawyer Clive Stafford Smith told the Associated Press.
The DOJ claims lawyers have misused the mail system to inform detainees about events such as the Iraq war, terrorist activities and abuse at Iraq’s abuse at Abu Ghraib prison. It wants to review mail and limit lawyers to three visits.
A letter to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales by the president of the New York City Bar says the DOJ’s claims are "astonishing and disingenuous,'' the New York Times reports.
A lawyer for detainees in Guantanamo Bay talked about conditions there Friday with Wall Street Journal Law Blog.
