Lawyer’s Tie in Tatters Over Terrorism Matters

A Texas lawyer’s ragged red, white and blue tie is not a fashion statement.

Robert Flournoy of Lufkin City vowed to keep wearing the tie, purchased at the 2000 Republican National Convention, until Osama bin Laden is captured or proven dead, according to a story on the Tex Parte blog republished in the New York Lawyer.

Since then the tie has grown so tattered that Flournoy has to hold it together with Velcro.

Two weeks ago, Flournoy came up with a plan to allow him to change his neckwear. He said he would declare Osama bin Laden to be dead unless he proved by the sixth anniversary of the terrorist attacks that he was still alive.

Never mind. Flournoy acknowledges the new bin Laden video is a coincidence rather than a response to his ultimatum, despite calls from reporters who want to know about the connection. But that’s not stopping him from issuing a new challenge: Bin Laden should meet him in a park where they will “fight to the death.”
