Lawyers Turn Poetic in Immigration Group’s Haiku Contest

By Debra Cassens Weiss

Kurzban's Immigration Law Sourcebook is something of a weighty book—literally—according to the winners of a haiku contest.

Nonprofit groups designated by the winners will get a copy of the book, thanks to the contest sponsor, the American Immigration Lawyers Association.

Two of the winning entries dealt with the weight of the tome. Here is one, submitted by Lacy Brinson of Miami:

The book's a monster.

Five pounds of endless knowledge.

Weight-train now in court.

Here’s another, from David Simmons of Denver:

Big toe is throbbing.

I dropped Kurzban's upon it.

A weighty treatise.

Legal Blog Watch noted the contest and took its own turn at haiku:

Bewildered blogger

Comes upon haiku contest.

Fodder for a post.
