Well-known closer to home as a rapidly growing Virginia-based law firm with more than 300 attorneys on its roster, LeClairRyan is now looking to expand in California.

But a lack of name recognition on the West Coast is slowing down its efforts to increase its 20-attorney contingent in Los Angeles and San Francisco to a 100-lawyer statewide roster by 2013, reports the Recorder.

Although the firm arrived in California last year, it was chagrined to hear, after the fact, that competitors had been snapping up attorneys from San Francisco's Folger Levin & Kahn, admits chairman Gary LeClair. "We're going to have to work a lot harder to get our name out there," he tells the legal publication.
