Legal Help for New Orleans Musicians

A legal clinic established after Hurricane Katrina has helped New Orleans musicians with contracts, copyright issues and licensing agreements.
Lawyer Ashlye Keaton runs the clinic. “Even if they lost everything, they still had their intellectual property,” Keaton told the New York Times. “You could see the look in people’s eyes: ‘This is all I have, this is my career, and I’m going to do everything I can to protect it.’ ”
The clinic is part of an effort by a real estate investor who bought a jazz club called Tipitina’s and established a related nonprofit foundation to help musicians.
