More than 50 lawyers at Lehman Brothers in the United Kingdom are among those expected to lose their jobs as a result of the investment bank’s bankruptcy.

Legal recruiters told Legal Week that 50 to 60 lawyers are expected to be laid off, but many law firms may be interested in hiring them. Several U.K. firms have already hired lawyers from Bear Stearns after it was sold to JPMorgan and may be interested in additional lawyers with investment bank experience.

"Competition for this pool of talent will undoubtedly be high across the financial services and commercial sectors,” said legal recruiter Ricky Mui of Robert Walters.
