After 27 years at Ropes & Gray, Thomas M. Susman is leaving his legislative and regulatory practice there to join the American Bar Association.

Beginning May 5, he will represent the ABA's more than 413,000 members as director of the Governmental Affairs Office, an ABA press release explains.

Susman's extensive resume also includes 11 years on Capitol Hill, where he was counsel to legislative committees. At the ABA, he has served on the Board of Governors and House of Delegates, and is a past chair of the Section of Administrative Law and Regulatory Practice.

"Leading the ABA's government affairs efforts enables me to return to full-time public interest and public service work," Susman says. "I know firsthand the array of issues on which the association advocates, and how important they are to the profession as well as to all Americans and to others around the world struggling to secure rights under the rule of law."
