Major UK Law Firms Plan to Help Partners Launch Post-Retirement Careers

At least two major London-based law firms are pursuing programs to help partners launch new careers after they retire from legal practice.

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has already started a pilot program, in which partners nearing retirement sit down with consultants to discuss " their strengths and possible career paths," reports Legal Week.

Clifford Chance is talking with consultants about beginning its own program, the article says.

“Accountancy firms have long run schemes like this, but law firms have been slow on the uptake," Caroline Stroud, head of human resources at Freshfields, tells the legal publication. "We want to encourage partners to build up their skills and outside interests over a number of years and start exploring their options at an earlier stage, as part of our umbrella support system.”
