Mary J. Blige Infringement Suit Revived

A federal appeals court has revived a lawsuit by a songwriter who claims hip-hop soul singer Mary J. Blige stole two of her songs.
Sharice Davis claims Blige’s songs "L.O.V.E." and "Keep it Moving" infringe on her copyrights, the New York Law Journal reports. The songs were on Blige’s triple platinum album "No More Drama."
The New York City-based 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled (PDF) that the suit could go forward, even though Davis’ co-writer transferred his interest in the songs to Blige’s brother. He is a defendant in the case who sold all his copyright interest in the album’s songs, retroactive to the date of the copyright, to a music publishing company that is also a defendant.
