Mayer Brown DC MP Jumps to JPMorgan Chase

The managing partner at Mayer Brown’s Washington, D.C., office is leaving to become vice president in charge of global government affairs for JPMorgan Chase.

The lawyer, Peter Scher, is a former Clinton administration official, the Washington Post reports. He was a special trade negotiator in the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative and chief of staff at the Commerce Department. At Commerce he worked with future commerce secretary William Daley, who is now his new supervisor at the bank, the story says.

Scher also managed the 2004 vice presidential campaign of Democratic candidate John Edwards. The Post story says Democrats are winning more lobbying positions in anticipation that Congress will become more heavily Democratic next year.

Legal Times is reporting that Scher’s replacement as D.C. managing partner will be Mark Ryan, chair of the firm’s litigation practice in the District.
