Meet the New Solicitor General

The U.S. Senate on Thursday confirmed Gregory G. Garre as the solicitor general. He had been acting solicitor general since Paul D. Clement stepped down in June.
Garre was the principal deputy solicitor general starting in October 2005. Prior to joining the Justice Department, he was a partner at Hogan & Hartson in Washington, D.C., where he headed the firm’s Supreme Court and appellate practice section. He served as an assistant to the solicitor general from 2000-2004. He has argued 23 cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, according to his DOJ biography.
