Mississippi Justice Drops Bid for Two Supreme Court Seats

Mississippi Supreme Court Justice Charles “Chuck” Easley has decided to focus on his own bid for re-election.
Easley had filed to run for two seats on the court. One is his seat and the other is occupied by Ann Hannaford Lamar, who was appointed by the state’s governor to fill a midterm vacancy. Easley had told a reporter the court is dominated by liberals appointed by the governor, and he filed for both seats to protest “cronyism at its worst.”
Now Easley tells the Commercial Dispatch he has withdrawn from his bid to unseat Lamar. Instead he’ll focus on defending his own seat against a challenge from a state appellate judge.
Easley told the newspaper his challenger, Judge David Chandler, is backed by criminal defense lawyers who think he is “too hard on criminals.”
