Morrison & Foerster partner Harold McElhinny of San Francisco says he is “backroadsing” through Texas after a big $59.3 million win yesterday in a suit that claimed Samsung Electronics infringed a plasma TV patent.

McElhinny spoke to Legal Pad about his road trip to wind down from the trial while munching on four crispy tacos at a Taco Bell in Nacogdoches, the state’s oldest town.

McElhinny represented Pioneer Corp. along with McKool Smith partner Samuel Baxter of Dallas. The legal team intends to seek treble damages against Samsung, the Daily Journal reports (sub. req.). McElhinny told the Daily Journal, "This is one of the strongest patent cases I've ever had.”

Legal Pad notes another advantage. The jury foreman, who goes to the same church as Baxter, was allowed to remain on the case even though she described Baxter as a good God-fearing man.
