Mom Asks Judge to Restrict Visitation for Satanist Ex-Husband

A mother is asking an Indiana judge to force her Satanist ex-husband to drop off her three children at her Christian church on Sunday mornings.

Kristie Meyer says her former spouse’s religious beliefs expose their children to embarrassment and confusion, and his visitation time should be restricted, the Chicago Tribune reports.

The father, Jamie Meyer, isn’t cooperating. "My children are my legacy," Meyer told the Tribune. "It is because of them that I am still here today. I will always fight for my rights as a father."

Legal experts told the Tribune that the burden is on Kristie Meyer to show Satanism is harmful to the children. They also said judges are reluctant to interfere in religious decisions since it risks crossing the line between church and state.

Satanism founder Peter Gilmore said the religion involves atheism rather than devil worship. “We see Satan as being a symbol of pride, liberty and individualism, not a deity," he told the newspaper. "We are the opposite of spiritual religions."
