Most GCs Happy With Job, Many Looking to Hire In-House Counsel

Despite headaches created by increased corporate compliance requirements and tension with outside auditors, the vast majority of lawyers at the helm of corporate legal departments are happy with their jobs. Some 85 percent of the nation's chief legal officers and general counsels say their careers are rewarding, according to an Association of Corporate Counsel survey.

Meanwhile, many of these legal head honchos are expecting to hire within a year, reports the National Law Journal. Over the next 12 months, 32.3 percent of respondents expected to hire more in-house lawyers, 54.6 percent did not, and 13.1 percent weren't sure," the NLJ recounts.

Records management is expected to be a hot issue for corporate legal departments in 2008.
