NASCAR Logo Settlement Reached

An out-of-court settlement allows NASCAR driver Jeff Burton to display the AT&T logo on his car for the next 18 months, but he must find a new corporate sponsor for the 2009 season.

NASCAR announced the settlement Friday, according to the Fulton County Daily Report. Burton’s car used to sport a logo for Cingular Wireless despite an exclusive sponsorship agreement between NASCAR and AT&T competitor Sprint-Nextel. When Cingular merged with AT&T in January, AT&T tried to place its logo on the car.

The result was litigation that sped to the Atlanta-based 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which ruled against AT&T in August, the Fulton County Daily Report reported in an earlier story.
