The long arm of the U.S. border patrol is reaching for a computer keyboard.
That’s bad news for Andrew Feldmar, who once wrote an article about his drug use in the 1960s. Feldmar wrote that experimenting with psychedelic drugs “was an absolutely fascinating and life-altering experience for me.”
A border control guard found the article in an Internet search, according to a “Sidebar” column by Adam Liptak of the New York Times. After Feldman admitted it was true, the guard turned Feldmar away.
Now Feldmar says he will need a waiver to gain admission to the United States.
Mike Milne, a spokesman for the Customs and Border Protection agency in Seattle, told the newspaper that the government is always looking for new information sources. “Any new technology that we have available to us, we use to do searches on,” he said.
