New La. Law School: ‘Biblical Worldview’

A new law school with a "biblical worldview" is being established by Louisiana College, a Baptist institution in Pineville founded in 1906.

Joe Aguillard, the college president, says the new law school, which is to open in 2009 with perhaps 40 students, will “unashamedly embrace” the nation’s “biblical roots” while at the same time educating graduates to practice law in Louisiana or nationwide, reports the Advocate, a Baton Rouge, La., newspaper. “We teach our students to have a passion to change the world in the name of Christ,” he tells the newspaper.

According to the newspaper, Aguillard says anti-Christian courts have improperly interpreted the U.S. Constitution on issues involving religious liberties and family values, and he promises to train lawyers to defend conservative Christian values in the nation's courts and political arenas.

Those in charge of the state's other law schools reportedly see their own institutions' mission differently, but said there is room for other views. “The truth will emerge from a multitude of tongues,” said Jack Weiss, chancellor of Louisiana State University Law Center. “If there are different perspectives on law, so be it.”
