A Seattle-based startup company is launching a Web site to help consumers find lawyers.
The new company, Avvo, will rate listed lawyers on a 1-to-10 scale and post consumer comments, the Seattle Times reports.
Avvo claims it lists every licensed attorney in Arizona; California; Washington, D.C; Georgia; Illinois; New York; Ohio; Pennsylvania; Texas; and Washington. The company is headed by former Expedia general counsel Mark Britton, who has a rating of 8 for “excellent.”
The site will also list areas of concentration and disciplinary sanctions for listed lawyers.
Barton expects the site will raise the ire of some lawyers. "We are taking what was dark and making it light. It will be controversial," he said.
His company was named after the Italian word for attorney, which is avvocato.
