N.Y. Lawyer Accused of Scamming Sept. 11 Widow Gives Up Law License

A New York lawyer accused of defrauding a Sept. 11 widow has given up his law license.
A New York appeals court accepted the resignation of Gregory Ronan, even though he has already been disbarred, Newsday reports. Ronan is accused in three separate civil cases.
In one, a judge ordered Ronan to pay more than $1 million to a widow whose husband was killed in the Sept. 11 attack on the World Trade Center, the story says. She contends Ronan cheated her out of $850,000 in death benefits by investing it in a company, General Credit, without disclosing that he was a director.
In a second Ronan was ordered to pay $450,000 to a plaintiff who sued Ronan for financial fraud, according to the story. In a third, a businessman contends Ronan defrauded him of almost $190,000 he invested in General Credit.
