A New York real estate lawyer who reportedly didn't file personal state income tax returns between 2001 and 2006 has been fined $10,000 after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor tax charge.

Roger Roisman also paid $189,000 in back taxes and interest, reports the North Country Gazette.

The article says the state targeted Roisman for an audit because of a practice of cross-checking state data with the IRS. It says the audit showed Roisman, who didn't have estimated taxes withheld from his earnings at various law firms during the years at issue in the case, also didn't make estimated tax payments during this time.

He is currently a partner at Tannenbaum Helpern Syracuse & Hirschtritt in Manhattan.

Neither the Gazette article nor a similar Associated Press article includes any comment from Roisman or the law firm.
