NY Lawyer Pleads Guilty in Runner Probe

An investigation into a runner accused of visiting hospitals to find personal injury clients has resulted in another guilty plea.
New York lawyer David Sheeger of Sheeger, of Kafko, Schnitzer & Sheeger pleaded guilty to filing a false “retained statement” that failed to reveal the source of a referral, the New York Law Journal reports. Prosecutors had claimed Sheeger paid $500 each for 67 accident victims referred to him by the runner, according to an Aug. 1 press release.
The plea deal calls for Sheeger to be sentenced to five years’ probation and to forfeit $110,000 in fees. He will also lose his law license.
Sheeger is the 11th lawyer caught up in the investigation.
