Manhattan prosecutors have charged a New York personal injury lawyer with stealing $650,000 in client settlement money.

Lawyer Marc Bernstein was charged with grand larceny and has pleaded not guilty, the New York Daily News reports.

Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau said Bernstein is accused of stealing from 11 clients. "He settled these cases pretty cheap, then took the money and ran," Morgenthau said, according to the Daily News account. "You should call him a hit-and-run lawyer."

Morgenthau said there could be additional victims. “We had to move quickly. We just couldn't let this guy continue," he said.
